“God is a circle whose center is everywhere and circumference nowhere.” -Empedocle
When I first heard of grounding and centering, it was in a novel. Specifically the middle Arrows of the Queen Valdemar trilogy by Mercedes Lackey – I can’t remember the name, but it is a scene where the heroine, Talia, is learning how to ground and center her energy so she won’t be intrusive to others and can yet function as the Queen’s Own Herald and as an empath. (Go read the books, they’re excellent!)
Anyway, after I read that then I was on the net and stumbled upon the more new age type of ground and center, and the two versions are more or less the same. Grounding is basically the act of reestablishing your connection to the earth. Centering is merely the act of refocusing your mental energy and focus internally as opposed to externally. It’s very useful for times of stress- I find myself doing a G&C daily, if not more so.
But don’t take my word for it. Go forth, young padawan, and learn!
